What you need to have ready
- Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe to log in and sign on the Ministerio Sede.
- PDFs of your documents, clear scans (no blurry photos). Name them sensibly.
- Time without rushing: 20–30 minutes if everything’s ready. If you improvise, it can take much longer.
Documentation
- DNI/NIE or passport valid.
- University degree or enrollment certificate + expediente académico if you’re still studying.
- CV in the target language (clear and short) and a motivation letter in that language.
- Language accreditation (if the bases require it). Don’t fake it—they verify.
- Certificado de delitos de naturaleza sexual (they’ll ask before you start if you’ll work with minors in Spain). If your placement is abroad, they may ask for antecedentes penales from that country.
Step by step
- Go to the programme ficha: https://www.educacionyfp.gob.es/servicios-al-ciudadano/catalogo/profesorado/auxiliares-conversacion.html and open the convocatoria vigente.
- Click Tramitar and enter the Sede: https://sede.educacion.gob.es with Cl@ve or certificado.
- Fill the solicitud: personal info, languages, destination preferences and availability. Attach the PDFs (degree/enrollment+expediente, CV, letter, language accreditation if needed).
- Check everything and click Firmar y Registrar. If you don’t get a justificante with CSV, you haven’t finished. Download and keep it.
- Wait for listas provisionales. If you appear with a requerimiento, go into the Sede and aporta the missing documents within the deadline.
- On adjudication, accept or renounce in the Sede. Then the CCAA/organismo will contact you with the carta de nombramiento and joining steps.
Tricks that save time
- Don’t leave it to the last day: the Sede gets overloaded and file uploads fail when everyone rushes.
- Make PDFs yourself and compress. Avoid 20 MB scans. Use black & white at 150–200 dpi if needed.
- Name files clearly: "DNI.pdf", "Titulo.pdf", "CV_en.pdf". It makes uploads faster.
- Read the bases: requirements change every year (language level, number of plazas, deadlines). What worked last year may not work now.
- Keep the CSV from the justificante. If something goes wrong, that number is your proof.
Common mistakes that can derail the trámite
- Not signing and registering: filling the form and leaving without registering equals not submitting.
- Uploading poor JPG photos: they ask for legible PDFs. If they can’t read them, they’ll require them again and you lose time.
- Leaving it to the last minute: the site slows and you may miss the deadline.
- Not proving your language level when the bases require it: no paperwork, no merit points.
- Ignoring subsanación emails: they often have short deadlines. If you don’t reply, you get excluded.
- Renouncing late or not replying to adjudication: they remove you for that year and could bar you from future calls.
- 1.Go to the official programme page on the Ministerio: https://www.educacionyfp.gob.es/servicios-al-ciudadano/catalogo/profesorado/auxiliares-conversacion.html and open the convocatoria vigente.
- 2.Click Tramitar and enter the Ministerio Sede electrónica with Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe: https://sede.educacion.gob.es
- 3.Fill in the solicitud: personal details, languages, destination preferences and availability. Attach the required PDFs (degree, CV, letter, language certificates).
- 4.Check everything, then Firmar y Registrar in the Sede. Download the justificante with CSV and keep it.
- 5.Watch for the provisional lists published on the convocatoria page. If they ask you to subsanar, go back to the Sede and upload the documents within the deadline.
- 6.If you get a place, accept or decline it from the Sede within the deadline. After that, the CCAA/organismo de destino will send the carta de nombramiento and joining instructions.
- DNI/NIE or valid passport (scanned both sides or the data page)
- University degree or enrollment certificate + expediente académico (if you’re still studying)
- CV in the target language (PDF, 1–2 pages)
- Motivation letter in the target language
- Official language certificate (if the convocatoria requires it)
- Certificado de delitos de naturaleza sexual (they will ask for it before you start if you’ll work with minors in Spain)
Tight deadlines
The convocatoria is annual and has a closing date. If you miss it, you wait another year. Set reminders and submit well before the last day.
The Sede chokes on the last day
Classic: the site gets slow or crashes close to the deadline. Upload your PDFs early and make sure you clicked Firmar y Registrar (if you didn’t, it doesn’t count).
Documents they’ll ask for later
The certificado de delitos de naturaleza sexual (in Spain) and, depending on the destination, antecedentes penales or medical certificate are usually requested before you start, not at application time. Without them you can’t join.
Renunciations and silence
If you don’t accept in time or renounce late, they remove you from that year’s list and may exclude you from future convocatorias. Read the bases carefully.
Who can apply to be an Auxiliar de Conversación?
It depends on the convocatoria. Usually you must be an adult, hold a university degree (or be in your final year) and have a minimum level of the target language. Check the convocatoria ficha for that year.
Do I have to pay a fee to apply?
No. The solicitud is free. Possible costs come later (sworn translations, certificates, visa if needed), but the online application has no tasa.
Can I choose the destination or specific school?
You mark preferences by country/CCAA and sometimes by area, but it’s not a guarantee. The Ministerio/CCAA assigns places based on merits and availability.
Do I need the certificado de delitos de naturaleza sexual to apply?
Usually not for the application, but you will need it before starting if you’ll work with minors in Spain. Start the trámite early because it can take time.
How long until they reply?
They normally publish provisional lists 1–4 semanas after the convocatoria closes. Then come final lists and adjudication. Exact deadlines are in the convocatoria.
Can I work another job at the same time?
It depends on the destination and the appointment. It’s often a part-time commitment, but there can be incompatibilities with public employment or scheduling. Read the conditions when you’re assigned a place.
