Guía completa
What you need to have ready
- Cl@ve or digital certificate to access the sede. If you don't have one, register at https://clave.gob.es/registro.
- Details of the centre and studies (Bachillerato, FP, university, centre, province).
- NIF of all members of your family unit you live with on 31 December of the reference year.
- Planned credits/modules (if university or higher FP) and whether you'll do a full or partial enrolment.
- IBAN in your name for the payment.
Documentation
- DNI/NIE of the applicant and family members (they usually cross-check automatically, but have them ready).
- Título de familia numerosa and certificate of disability if applicable.
- Rental contract + receipts and proof of your own income if you claim independence.
- Separation/divorce sentence and convenio regulador if there is custody/pensions.
- Certificado de empadronamiento colectivo or libro de familia if the family composition doesn't match the cross-checks.
- Proof of enrollment or planned credits (your centre confirms this later).
Step by step
- Go to https://www.becaseducacion.gob.es and open the Beca general for the relevant year. You'll see the Solicitar button when the deadline is open.
- Log in with Cl@ve or a digital certificate. If you don't have one, sign up online or book a Cl@ve appointment; without this you can't start.
- Fill in the application: studies and centre, housing situation (with family, rental, residence), family unit (NIF of everyone), disability, familia numerosa, etc. Enter credits/modules if applicable.
- Authorise data checks (AEAT, Seguridad Social, Catastro). If you don't, upload the certificates the system requests in PDF.
- Submit and download the resguardo with your expediente number. Check Mis expedientes to make sure nothing is pending.
- Enroll in September–October. Your centre submits the actual enrollment. If you reduce credits or cancel subjects, tell the grants office/update your expediente or you risk a reintegro.
- If you get a requerimiento to fix something, go to the expediente and click Aportar documentos. If the sede is down, use the Registro Electrónico Común: https://rec.redsara.es stating your expediente number and convocatoria.
- Check the resolution (provisional and final) on the sede. Payments normally arrive between December and March.
Time-savers and tips
- Don't mark independence if you can't prove a rental contract, payments and your own means: they'll reject it and you'll lose weeks.
- Bank account in your name always. If you put someone else's account the payment may be bounced.
- Fill the form carefully: enter NIFs and address correctly. A mistyped NIF = a requerimiento.
- Authorise data checks. If you don't, you'll have to upload IRPF, empadronamiento and other docs, and it drags out the process.
- Don't wait until the last day: the sede slows down and the submit button can hang.
- If you're a foreigner without a Spanish tax return, provide income certificates or whatever they ask; otherwise they'll require it.
Common mistakes that can ruin the process
- Submitting after the deadline: you're out, unless there's a very justified reason.
- Registering fewer credits than required and not informing them: you'll have to repay.
- Not including all cohabitants of the family unit or putting the wrong address: the cross-check with Catastro/empadronamiento will flag it and they'll stop your expediente.
- Not authorising data checks and not uploading the certificates: decision frozen until you fix it.
- IBAN in someone else’s name: payment held back.
- Not checking the notifications inbox of the expediente: they'll send a requerimiento and you can lose the grant if you don't reply.
- 1.Go to https://www.becaseducacion.gob.es and open the Beca general call. Click “Solicitar” when the deadline is open.
- 2.Log in with Cl@ve or a digital certificate. If you don't have one, register at https://clave.gob.es/registro (if you go in person, book an appointment at your registro office).
- 3.Fill in the application: studies and centre, planned credits/modules, your address (with family, rental, residence), family unit (NIF of everyone), disability, familia numerosa, etc.
- 4.Authorise the data checks (AEAT, Seguridad Social, Catastro). If you don't authorise, attach the specific certificates the form asks for (income, empadronamiento…).
- 5.Submit online and download the receipt with the expediente number. Check “Mis expedientes” on the sede to see if anything else is missing.
- 6.Enroll in September–October; your centre confirms credits and requirements. If you change your enrollment (fewer credits), notify it in your expediente or contact the grants office at your centre.
- 7.If they require corrections, upload documents from your expediente (Aportar documentos). If the sede fails, use the Registro Electrónico Común at https://rec.redsara.es stating your expediente number.
- DNI/NIE of the applicant and of all members of the family unit (NIF of parents/guardians if you live with them)
- IBAN in the applicant's name (account where the grant will be paid)
- Título de familia numerosa currently valid (if applicable)
- Certificate of disability equal to or greater than 33% or recognition of dependency (if applicable)
- Separation/divorce sentence and convenio regulador with pensions (if applicable)
- Rental contract and payment receipts + proof of your own income (if you declare family and financial independence)
- Certificado de empadronamiento colectivo or family book if the family composition/address doesn't match what the Administration has
- Proof of enrollment or planned credits/modules (your centre confirms this later, but they may ask for it)
Early opening / Deadlines
It usually opens between March and May for the following academic year. If you miss the deadline you're out, unless there is a very justified reason. Don’t wait until the last day: the sede gets overloaded.
Minimum credits and academic performance
If you don't enroll in the required minimum credits or your performance drops, they can deny you or demand repayment. Check the academic requirements for your studies in the convocatoria.
Family independence
Marking independence without a rental contract, proof of payments and your own means is almost certain denial. If you can't prove it, don't mark independence.
Bank account
The IBAN must be in the applicant's name. Putting your parent’s account delays or blocks the payment.

When do you apply for the Beca MEC general?
The call usually opens between March and May for the following academic year. Exact dates change every year and are on the front page of https://www.becaseducacion.gob.es.
Can I apply before I'm enrolled?
Yes, you apply before enrolling. Later your centre confirms the credits/modules in autumn. If you change your enrolment, update your expediente or tell the grants office.
How many credits do I need to register?
It depends on the type of studies and whether you apply for full or partial enrolment. At university, the general rule asks for 60 ECTS for full amounts; with partial enrolment the aid is reduced. Check your convocatoria.
I work / I am registered with Seguridad Social, do they take the grant away?
Not for working alone, but your income counts toward the income thresholds. If the family unit exceeds the threshold for your case, the grant is denied or reduced.
What if I don't authorise the data checks?
You'll have to upload certificates: IRPF/income summary from AEAT, empadronamiento, etc. If something's missing they'll require it and the decision will be delayed.
Is it compatible with other grants?
Usually it's incompatible with other aids that finance the same thing (tuition, residence) for the same academic year. Some smaller regional aids can be compatible. Check the incompatibilities section of the convocatoria.
Can they ask me to return the grant?
Yes, if you don't enroll the minimum, cancel subjects or don't meet the required academic standards. Also if you falsify data or claim independence without proof.
