Apply for the Ministry's general grant for post-compulsory studies

What you need to have to hand

1. Cl@ve or certificado digital to enter the Ministerio’s sede. If you don’t have it, book an appointment to register for Cl@ve: https://clave.gob.es/clave_Home/registro.html.
2. DNI/NIE and NIF of those who live with you (family unit).
3. IBAN in your name (open an account if you don’t have one).
4. Centre and studies data you’ll do (centre code, type of studies, year).
5. Special documents if applicable: familia numerosa title, disability certificate, rental/empadronamiento if you claim residence, custody situations.

Documentation

• DNI/NIE scanned, in case they ask.
• IBAN of the student (the app asks for it; sometimes they request a proof of ownership).
• Familia numerosa title or disability certificate (if applicable).
• Rental contract + empadronamiento if you claim the residence component outside the family home.
• Resguardo de matrícula or centre/studies data (depends if you’re already enrolled).
• Declarations generated by the application (authorisation to consult income, etc.).

Step by step

1. Go in to the sede: https://sede.educacion.gob.es/tramites-y-servicios/becas-ayudas.html and open the Beca general for the correct academic year.
2. Identify yourself with Cl@ve (Permanente or PIN) or with certificado digital. If you don’t have one, book cita to register in Cl@ve and come back.
3. Fill in your details, studies and family unit members. Tick the authorisation so they can check income, familia numerosa and disability. Don’t attach documents they don’t ask for.
4. If the app requires it, attach PDFs (rental, independence, disability). Watch file size and readability.
5. Sign and register the application. Until you sign, it doesn’t exist. Download the resguardo with expediente number.
6. Keep an eye on your email and “Mis trámites” on the sede. If your centre or grants unit summons you to validate enrolment or to see originals, make an appointment and take them.
7. If you get a requerimiento, answer within the deadline by uploading what they ask. Don’t leave it to the last day.

Tricks that save time

• Do it outside peak hours (evenings/night). The sede performs much better.
• Have your IBAN and family data ready before you start; the app times out if you dawdle.
• Don’t attach documents for the sake of it. If they don’t ask, don’t upload. Less is better.
• Save the PDF of the resguardo and the signing receipt. If something is lost, that saves you.
• Ask your centre how they validate enrolment (many do it internally and you don’t have to go in).

Typical mistakes that can derail your application

1. Filling it in and not signing. It happens more than you’d think. No electronic signature = no application.
2. Putting your parents’ account. They’ll stop it or not pay. Always use an account in your name.
3. Missing the deadline. There are no general extensions. If you’re late, except for force majeure, you’re out.
4. Not meeting minimum academic requirements. If you don’t enrol in the minimum credits or fail too much, denial or repayment follows.
5. Uploading blurry photos of documents. If they can’t read them, you’ll get a requerimiento and lose weeks.
