Registering your official university degree (RUCT)

What you need to have ready

1. Cl@ve PIN/Permanente, certificado digital or DNIe to identify yourself.
2. DNI/NIE in date.
3. Resguardo de solicitud de expedición del título from your university and the justificante de pago for the fees.
4. Contact details for the secretaría de tu facultad (email or registro electrónico) in case you need to complain.

Documentation

• Resguardo de expedición del título (serves as a temporary proof while the final paper arrives).
• Justificante de pago of the expedición fees (university).
• DNI/NIE and, if applicable, the document proving change of name/nationality.
• If your degree is very old or there are issues, a certificado supletorio from your university can save you.

Step by step

1. Check if you’re already listed: go to Mi Carpeta Ciudadana (https://carpetaciudadana.gob.es) with Cl@ve and open Formación y estudios > Títulos universitarios. If you appear, download the PDF with CSV and you’re done.
2. If you haven’t requested the degree: apply for the expedición on your university’s sede electrónica. Pay the fee, download the resguardo and save the CSV or receipt number.
3. Reasonable wait: between 1 and 4 semanas your university should upload your data to the registro estatal. Meanwhile, check the RUCT (https://www.educacion.gob.es/ruct/home) to confirm your university’s título is official (note: the RUCT is public by degree, not by person).
4. Check Mi Carpeta again: when you appear, download the justificante/PDF with CSV. That document is what they usually ask for in oposiciones and scholarships.
5. If you don’t appear in 4 weeks: write to your secretaría. If they don’t reply, submit a written request via the Registro Electrónico Común (REC) (https://rec.redsara.es/registro/action/are/acceso.do) to your university, subject "Volcado al RUCT/Registro estatal de titulados", and attach the resguardo.
6. Data errors: if your name, DNI or date are wrong, request a rectificación from your university via their sede or via REC. They correct and resend to the Ministry.

Time-saving tips

• Always keep the resguardo: it’s your lifeline while the register updates.
• If Mi Carpeta won’t load or won’t let you sign, try Chrome or use a certificado digital. Some days the sites are temperamental.
• Check accents and surname order. A misplaced accent can mess you up in concursos and oposiciones.
• When asked for verification, share the PDF’s CSV; any organisation can check it online.
• Have a título propio? Don’t waste time searching: it won’t appear in the registro estatal.

Common mistakes that can derail your process

1. Trying to register the degree yourself: you can’t. Without the university’s volcado, nothing happens.
2. Confusing official and own degrees: títulos propios don’t go into the RUCT. You’ll go in circles looking for something that doesn’t exist.
3. Not checking your data when you appear: if it doesn’t match your DNI, it will blow up when you most need it.
4. Waiting months without complaining: if there’s no movement after 4 weeks, put pressure in writing (REC) and attach the resguardo.
5. Thinking the paper diploma is what matters: for procedures, the registro and the PDF’s CSV are what counts. The physical diploma can take longer, the register should come first.
