Permiso de estancia por voluntariado (no UE) y TIE

Police appointment wait: 3–6 weeks on average. Activate Radar and we alert you first.

If you come to Spain to do a recognised volunteering programme, this procedure gives you legal stay and the card (TIE). It’s for non-EU nationals with an agreement with a hosting entity that runs the programme.

Guía completa

What you need to have at hand
  1. Cl@ve or certificado digital to submit online.
  2. Valid passport scanned in full.
  3. Volunteering agreement with the hosting entity (must be recognised and detailed).
  4. Health insurance valid in Spain.
  5. Apostilled criminal record and sworn translation if applicable.
  6. Means of support or a maintenance letter from the entity.
  7. Bank card or access to your bank to pay fees.
Documentation
  • EX-00 completed marking the volunteering option.
  • Volunteering agreement: must include tasks, schedule, duration, tutor, coverage of expenses (accommodation/food) and insurance if provided by the entity.
  • Passport: full, valid copy.
  • Criminal record certificate: from the last 5 years, legalised/apostillado and translated.
  • Health insurance: not a low-quality policy that won’t cover hospitalisation.
  • Means of support: bank statements, scholarship or entity’s commitment (use IPREM as reference).
  • Medical certificate if the stay exceeds 6 months.
  • Fees: 790-052 (authorisation) and, once granted, 790-012 (TIE).
Step by step
  1. Close the agreement with the volunteering entity. If coverage of expenses isn’t clear, get it in writing.
  2. Pay the 790-052 at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/tasas (choose estancia por estudios/prácticas/voluntariado). Keep the NRC or stamped receipt.
  3. Submit the EX-00 online at sede.migraciones.gob.es with Cl@ve. Upload clear PDFs (one file per document helps). Sign and send.
  4. Wait and answer subsanaciones: check DEHú/Carpeta Ciudadana. If they request something, upload it within the deadline they give.
  5. With the grant in hand, pay the 790-012 at sede.policia.gob.es/Tasa790_012/ and book the fingerprint appointment at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/icpplus (POLICÍA – TOMA DE HUELLAS).
  6. Attend fingerprints with passport, resolution, 790-012, 1 photo 32x26 mm and proof of address (padrón/contract). They’ll give a receipt and collection date.
  7. Collect the TIE when called. Check your data is correct.
Tricks that save you time
  • Upload PDFs under 5–10 MB and name them clearly: "Pasaporte.pdf", "Penales_apostilla.pdf".
  • If the booking site crashes, try early (07:00–09:00) and use Chrome. Yes, it’s annoying, but it works.
  • Ask the entity for a letter of financial coverage: it avoids fighting with bank statements.
  • If they don’t notify within a month, ask for the status. Silence is often favourable on this procedure.
Common mistakes that can mess it up
  • Criminal record without apostille or without sworn translation: direct refusal.
  • Choosing the wrong epígrafe on the 790-052: you’ll have to pay again.
  • Submitting with a low-cost insurance that doesn’t cover hospitalisation: they’ll ask you to fix it or deny the request.
  • Missing the one-month deadline for fingerprints: then come rushes, appeals and headaches.
  • Volunteering agreement that’s vague on tasks/duration: Extranjería will reject it for being generic.
  1. 1.Prepare the agreement with the hosting entity and gather your apostilled criminal record, insurance and proof of funds. If the stay is over 6 months, get the medical certificate.
  2. 2.Generate and pay tasa 790-052 (epígrafe estancia por estudios/prácticas/voluntariado) at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/tasas getting an NRC or PDF to pay at the bank.
  3. 3.Submit the Modelo EX-00 online with Cl@ve or certificate at sede.migraciones.gob.es attaching all PDFs. Mark the volunteering option and upload the 790-052 receipt.
  4. 4.Watch notifications in your Carpeta Ciudadana/DEHú and on the sede. If they ask for subsanación, upload the missing items within the deadline.
  5. 5.With a favourable resolution, pay tasa 790-012 for the TIE at sede.policia.gob.es/Tasa790_012/ and book your fingerprint appointment (TIE) at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/icpplus for your province.
  6. 6.Go to fingerprints with passport, resolution, 790-012 receipt, empadronamiento/address, 1 photo 32x26 mm and the fingerprint form. Then collect the TIE when they tell you (you’ll get a receipt).
  • Full, valid passport (all pages in one PDF if you do it online)
  • Volunteering agreement with the hosting entity (programme, tasks, duration, accommodation/food if covered, tutor)
  • Criminal record certificate from countries where you lived in the last 5 years (over 18s), apostillado/legalised and translated by a sworn translator (antecedentes penales)
  • Health insurance that covers you in Spain (public or private, no abusive copayments)
  • Sufficient funds or a letter of maintenance from the entity (amount aligned with IPREM)
  • Medical certificate if the stay exceeds 6 months (WHO formulation of not having diseases of public health relevance)
  • Proof of payment of tasa 790-052 (epígrafe estancia por estudios/prácticas/voluntariado) and later the 790-012 for the TIE
  • Empadronamiento or contract/address in Spain for the TIE and 1 recent passport photo (32x26 mm) for fingerprints
