Request the additional minimum supplement to your pension at the INSS

A miscalculated claim costs hundreds per month. We review your contribution base.

If you get a low contributory pension, you can ask the INSS for the complemento a mínimos to reach the legal minimum. This applies to retirement, incapacity or survivor pensions when your pension is below the legal minimum and you meet the income limits.

Guía completa

What you need to have to hand
  1. Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe to access Tu Seguridad Social.
  2. Resolución de tu pensión (the PDF the INSS sent when they recognised it).
  3. Income documents: latest Renta or certificado de imputaciones from the AEAT, payslips, interest, rentals, other pensions (also foreign).
  4. Padrón histórico y colectivo if you claim cohabitation/dependent spouse.
  5. Libro de familia or marriage certification (only if you declare a dependent spouse).
  6. IBAN where you receive the pension.
Documentation
  • DNI/NIE (and the spouse’s if applicable).
  • Resolución de pensión in force.
  • IRPF: tax return or certificado de imputaciones (get it at sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es).
  • Proofs of current income: statements of pensions (Spanish or foreign), interest, rents, public benefits.
  • Empadronamiento histórico y colectivo to prove cohabitation/dependent spouse.
  • Libro de familia or certification from the Registro Civil (if applicable).
Step by step
  1. Go to Tu Seguridad Social: https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/wps/portal/tuss and log in with Cl@ve or certificado.
  2. Go to Pensiones > Mis gestiones and find Solicitar complemento a mínimos. If you don’t see it, go to Variaciones/Comunicaciones about your pension and select the complemento option.
  3. Fill in the expected income for the year: yours and, if applicable, your dependent spouse’s. Mark marital status and cohabitation exactly as they appear in the padrón/Registro Civil.
  4. Attach the PDFs: IRPF or certificado de imputaciones, padrón colectivo, Libro de familia (if applies) and proofs of other income. Check that files don’t exceed the maximum size set by the Sede.
  5. Sign and submit. Download the resguardo with CSV and keep it. If something is missing, use Aportar documentación a una solicitud on the same Sede.
  6. If you go in person, book cita previa from the INSS Sede (Cita Previa button), bring originals and copies and say it is a complemento a mínimos for an already recognised pension.
  7. Track the status in Tu Seguridad Social > Tus gestiones and check notifications on the Sede.
Time-saving tips
  1. Get the certificado de imputaciones in 2 minutes at the AEAT if you don’t file Renta.
  2. Request the padrón histórico y colectivo online from your ayuntamiento if available (in Madrid: sede.madrid.es; in others, check the municipal sede electrónica).
  3. If you receive a foreign pension, attach a certificate from the paying entity. This avoids requests for more documents.
  4. If cita previa is impossible to get, try early morning several days in a row. It’s a common pain.
  5. Keep everything in a single PDF per concept (income, padrón, marriage). Fewer rejections for size/format.
Common mistakes that can ruin the process
  1. Not declaring small incomes (interest or rentals): the INSS treats them the same and will ask for repayment.
  2. Claiming a dependent spouse without proving marriage and cohabitation: certain denial.
  3. Uploading huge or blurry files: Sede error or request and weeks lost.
  4. Not notifying when your income rises: they remove the supplement and you must repay with surcharges.
  5. Outdated padrón data: if your declared cohabitation doesn’t match the padrón, you’ll have problems.
  1. 1.Go to Tu Seguridad Social: https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/wps/portal/tuss and log in with Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe.
  2. 2.Inside Pensiones > Mis gestiones, look for "Solicitar complemento a mínimos". If it doesn’t appear, go to Variaciones/Comunicaciones about your pension and choose the complemento a mínimos option.
  3. 3.Fill in the form: expected income for the year (yours and, if applicable, your dependent spouse’s), marital status and cohabitation exactly as they appear in the padrón/Registro Civil.
  4. 4.Attach the proofs in PDF/JPG: IRPF or certificado de imputaciones, padrón colectivo, Libro de familia (if spouse is claimed), and any additional income. Respect the file size limit set by the Sede.
  5. 5.Sign and submit online. Download the receipt with CSV and keep it safe.
  6. 6.If you do it in person: book an appointment at the Seguridad Social office > Cita previa (INSS) from https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/wps/portal/sede/sede/Inicio, select INSS and bring originals and copies. Say clearly you are going to "solicitar complemento a mínimos".
  7. 7.Track the application in Tu Seguridad Social > Tus gestiones and check notifications on https://sede.seg-social.gob.es (and in your Dirección Electrónica Habilitada if you use it).
  • DNI/NIE and, if you act for someone else, a signed authorisation and their DNI/NIE
  • Resolución de tu pensión del INSS (PDF showing the recognition of your current pension)
  • Latest Income Tax return or certificado de imputaciones from the AEAT (if you don’t file Renta, request a certificado negativo at sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es)
  • Proofs of current income: payslips, rental income, bank interest, other pensions (including foreign ones)
  • Certificado de empadronamiento histórico y colectivo (if you claim a dependent spouse or cohabitation)
  • Libro de familia or certification from the Registro Civil of marriage (only if you claim a dependent spouse)
  • IBAN of the account where you receive the pension (if you change account, bring the updated IBAN)
