Request additional supplements to your pension (Gestión 16, INSS)

A miscalculated claim costs hundreds per month. We review your contribution base.

Use this to ask, if you already receive an INSS pension, for a legal extra: the complemento a mínimos or the complemento para la reducción de la brecha de género. Useful if your income is low or if you meet the conditions for the children-related supplement.

Guía completa

What you need to have ready
  1. Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe that works. If Cl@ve won’t sign, use Cl@ve Firma.
  2. Pension file number from the INSS (it appears on the recognition letter or in your notifications).
  3. Scanned documents in PDF: DNI, libro de familia/certificates of children if you’re applying for brecha de género, padrón colectivo if you claim cónyuge a cargo, IRPF and income certificates, and your IBAN.
  4. A browser that doesn’t mess you about. The Sede works better in Chrome/Edge. Attachments have size limits; compress PDFs if needed.
Documentation
  • Identity: DNI/NIE of the pensioner (and of the spouse if you claim mínimos with cónyuge a cargo).
  • Family link: libro de familia or birth/adoption certificates (brecha de género).
  • Cohabitation: padrón colectivo recent if you claim cónyuge a cargo.
  • Incomes: last declaración de la renta and current certificates (bank, rents, payslips, foreign pensions, etc.).
  • Foreign pensions: annual certificate with amount and currency.
  • Bank account: document with IBAN in your name.
Step by step
  1. Gather and name your PDFs: make each file obvious. Avoid blurry photos.
  2. Go to the Sede del INSS: https://sede.seg-social.gob.es with Cl@ve/certificate. If it’s for brecha de género, look under Ciudadanos > Pensiones and use that service.
  3. If you don’t see the clear button (or it’s complemento a mínimos), use the Registro Electrónico Común (REC): https://rec.redsara.es. Organism: Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social (INSS), destination: Dirección Provincial of your province.
  4. In the subject put "Solicitud de complemento a la pensión (mínimos / brecha de género)". In the body give your DNI, pension file number, type of pension and since when you receive it. List the attachments.
  5. Attach all PDFs. If there are many, upload them as separate annexes. Better one PDF per document.
  6. Sign and register with Cl@ve Firma or certificate. Save the receipt (PDF with asiento number) like it’s important.
  7. Check DEHú: https://dehu.redsara.es and your email. If they ask for a subsanación, reply through the same expediente in the REC uploading what’s missing.
  8. When the resolution arrives, check the cuantía and the date of effects. If it doesn’t add up, file a recurso within 30 working days via the REC, arguing with law and evidence.
Time-saving tricks
  • If you apply for mínimos with cónyuge a cargo, attach padrón colectivo and marriage/civil partnership certificate from the start. Without them they will request it.
  • For incomes, upload IRPF and also current certificates (bank, rents). The INSS wants the current year, not just the previous one.
  • Got a foreign pension? Ask your foreign body for an annual statement. If it’s in another language, include a translation (better sworn if numbers are unclear).
  • Scan in black & white at 150–200 dpi to reduce size and avoid the portal blocking you.
Common mistakes that can mess your application
  1. Uploading only last year’s tax return: they also ask for current year income. Without it they stop the file.
  2. Not proving cohabitation with a dependent spouse: without a padrón colectivo, near-certain denial.
  3. Mixing up supplements: the brecha de género one doesn’t stack with the old motherhood supplement. If you switch, they may recalculate.
  4. Not reporting income changes: they’ll catch you in the annual review and demand reintegro with interest.
  5. Signing without saving the receipt: then you can’t prove when you submitted. Always download the PDF de registro.
  1. 1.Prepare your documents as PDFs (clear, no passwords). Rename them plainly: DNI.pdf, LibroFamilia.pdf, PadronColectivo.pdf, IRPF.pdf, etc.
  2. 2.Log in with Cl@ve, DNIe or certificate at the Sede del INSS: https://sede.seg-social.gob.es. If your case is the complemento por brecha de género, use its specific service if it appears under Pensiones.
  3. 3.If you don’t see the exact procedure, submit the application through the Registro Electrónico Común: https://rec.redsara.es. Choose "Presentar solicitud" and address the submission to "Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social (INSS) – Dirección Provincial" of your province.
  4. 4.In the REC describe the reason: "Solicitud de complemento a la pensión (especifica: mínimos / brecha de género)". Include your DNI number, pension file number and since when you have been receiving the pension. Attach all the PDFs.
  5. 5.Sign with Cl@ve Firma or certificate and register. Download the presentation receipt (PDF) and keep the asiento/registro number.
  6. 6.Watch notifications in DEHú (https://dehu.redsara.es) and your email. If they ask you to fix something (missing paper), reply through the same expediente in the REC attaching what they ask for.
  7. 7.When you receive the resolution, check the cuantía and the effective date. If you disagree, file an appeal within 30 working days before the INSS via the REC, explaining why and attaching evidence.
  • DNI/NIE of the pensioner and, if applicable, of the spouse or registered partner (front and back, in PDF)
  • Resolution of your pension or pension file number (appears on the INSS letter or on your vida laboral/pensión)
  • Libro de familia or birth/adoption certificates of the children (if you apply for the complemento por brecha de género)
  • Certificado de empadronamiento colectivo recent to prove cohabitation and dependent spouse (if you apply for complemento a mínimos with cónyuge a cargo)
  • Last declaración de la renta (IRPF) and/or current income certificates: bank interest, rents, foreign pensions, payslips if you combine work, etc.
  • Proof of foreign pensions: annual certificate with amount and currency (if you receive any from abroad)
  • Bank certificate or document with the pension holder's IBAN (for payments/regularisations)
