Pedir o actualizar tu Tarjeta Sanitaria Individual (TSI) en tu CCAA

What you need to have to hand

1. Cl@ve or certificado digital/DNIe that works. Without it, don't try online.
2. Volante de empadronamiento recent (better colectivo if you add beneficiaries).
3. DNI/NIE of the holder and each beneficiary.
4. NUSS/NAF of the holder (and of the beneficiary if they have one).
5. Proofs of kinship/cohabitation: libro de familia, tutela, pareja registrada.
6. TIE/Certificado UE if you're foreign.
7. S1 or INSS resolution if you don't appear as entitled in their database.

Documentation

• Identity: DNI/NIE or passport. For minors, DNI or libro de familia.
• Padrón: certificado or volante less than 3 months old. If you add your child/partner, better a colectivo showing you live together.
• Social Security: NUSS/NAF of the holder. If you don't have it, get the number at importass.seg-social.es.
• Legal residence: TIE or Certificado UE, if applicable.
• Kinship: libro de familia, tutela resolution or pareja de hecho/marriage document.
• Right to healthcare: S1 (if you're a pensioner/exported worker) or resolución de reconocimiento del INSS if you don't appear as entitled.
• Transfer: your old TSI or proof of deregistration/transfer if you change CCAA.

Step by step

1. Register at the padrón where you live and download the volante from your ayuntamiento's sede. Without this, it's a closed door.
2. Check your situation with Seguridad Social. If you don't have NUSS, sort it at importass.seg-social.es. If you're unsure about entitlement, file the recognition at the sede del INSS (sede.seg-social.gob.es → Asistencia sanitaria).
3. Prepare the PDFs: clear, colour, under 5 MB each. Put everything together: ID, padrón, NUSS, kinship docs, TIE/UE, S1/INSS if needed.
4. Submit via the REC: go to rec.redsara.es, ID with Cl@ve/certificado, choose presentación a otra Administración and address the application to the Servicio de Salud of your CCAA. Subject: “Solicitud de Tarjeta Sanitaria Individual (alta/traslado/cambio/beneficiario)”. Attach the PDFs.
5. Useful Observations: request a specific centro de salud and explain if you come from another CCAA. If you have S1, say so and attach it.
6. Watch notifications on carpetaciudadana.gob.es and notificaciones.060.es. If they ask you to correct something, reply via the same REC attaching the missing items.
7. Registration and card: they usually assign the médico in 2–7 days. The TSI card arrives in 1–4 weeks. If you need it immediately, your health centre can print a justificante with CIP.

Time-savers

• Colectivo padrón if you add beneficiaries: avoids requests for “no proof of cohabitation”.
• Name files smartly: 01_DNI.pdf, 02_Padron.pdf, 03_LibroFamilia.pdf… they’ll process you faster.
• S1 complete and valid if you're EU. A screenshot often gets rejected.
• Check Carpeta Ciudadana daily the first week: if they request something, the deadline is short (usually 10 working days).

Common mistakes to avoid

1. Uploading an expired padrón (6 months old). They will reject it.
2. Not checking entitlement with the INSS: the CCAA can't give you a TSI if INSS says you don't have entitlement. Do that first.
3. Huge or blurry PDFs: many portals fail with files over 5 MB. Scan at 150–200 dpi.
4. Forgetting the beneficiary document (minor's DNI, libro de familia…). Rejection guaranteed.
5. Transferring without planning: when you register in the new CCAA they deregister you in the old one. If you have active treatments, coordinate so you don't get cut off.
