Guía completa

What to have ready
  1. Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe to pay the tasa and check your file on the Sede DGT.
  2. Your valid driving licence (minimum B; for trucks, C/C+E as required).
  3. A centro homologado for the ADR course (básico and any extra modules you need).
Documentation
  • DNI/NIE and valid driving licence.
  • Certificado de aprovechamiento del curso ADR (básico, and cisternas/Clase 1/Clase 7 if applicable).
  • Proof of payment of tasa DGT 2.3 (NRC or PDF from the sede).
  • Solicitud de examen ADR registered (if you go solo; if the centre signs you up, you can skip this).
  • Previous ADR authorisation for renewals.
  • Passport photo only if your Jefatura still asks for one (each province differs).
Step by step
  1. Choose a centro homologado and take the ADR course you need: básico mandatory, add cisternas and/or Clases 1 and 7 if relevant.
  2. Pay the tasa DGT 2.3 on the Sede DGT with Cl@ve/certificado. Download the receipt and treat the NRC like gold.
  3. Exam registration: normally the centre enrolls you. If you go solo, file your solicitud on the Sede DGT (Exámenes > Mercancías peligrosas) and attach NRC and your DNI.
  4. Attend the multiple-choice exam on the convoked day. Bring your DNI, payment receipt and, just in case, the course certificate.
  5. If you pass, the DGT processes the autorización ADR. Check on the Sede DGT (Mis trámites > Conductores). Depending on the province, they give it at Jefatura or post it to you.
  6. To renew: recycling course + tasa 2.3 + exam within the last year of validity. If it expires, you restart with the initial course.
Time-saving tricks
  • Pay the tasa online before the centre registers you: avoids last-minute runs.
  • If you need cisternas or Clases 1/7, try to group modules in the same session to avoid duplicate admin.
  • Save the NRC and the PDF of payment on your phone and in the cloud. Losing it wastes a morning.
  • For telematic payment, prefer Chrome/Edge with Cl@ve; some prepaid cards fail.
Common mistakes to avoid
  • Letting the ADR expire thinking there’s an automatic extension: there isn’t one; you’ll need the initial course again.
  • Confusing ADR with CAP: one doesn’t replace the other. If you drive professionally you may need both.
  • Doing only the básico when you’ll carry tankers or explosives: you’ll lack the required endorsement and risk fines and immobilisation.
  • Not checking how the authorisation is collected: some provinces mail it, others make you go to the office.
  1. 1.Sign up for the ADR course (básico and, if needed, cisternas/Clase 1/Clase 7) at a centro homologado. Without the course you can’t take the exam.
  2. 2.Pay tasa DGT 2.3 online using Cl@ve/certificado on the Sede DGT (Pago de tasas) and keep the NRC.
  3. 3.Register for the ADR exam: normally the centre enrolls you; if you go solo, enter the Sede DGT (Exámenes > Mercancías peligrosas), file the solicitud and attach NRC and your DNI.
  4. 4.Attend the multiple-choice exam on the assigned date (in person, at the Jefatura/tribunal the DGT sets). Pass = continue; fail = wait for the next convocation.
  5. 5.After passing, check the status on the Sede DGT (Mis trámites > Conductores). If instructed, collect the ADR authorisation at your Jefatura; in some provinces they mail it to you.
  6. 6.For renewals: take the refresher course, pay tasa 2.3 and sit the exam within the last year of validity to keep the qualification.
  • DNI/NIE and a valid Spanish driving licence (minimum B; for truck work, the relevant one: C, C+E…).
  • Certificado de aprovechamiento del curso ADR from a centro homologado (básico and, if applicable, cisternas/Clase 1/Clase 7).
  • Proof of payment of tasa DGT 2.3 (NRC or telematic payment receipt).
  • Registered solicitud de examen ADR at the DGT (if you sit the exam privately).
  • Previous ADR authorisation (only if you are renewing).
  • 1 recent passport photo only if your Jefatura still requires it (many no longer do).
