If you've been given a baja médica, here’s how to get the Incapacidad Temporal benefit and avoid losing money. Applies to employees and autónomos, depending on who pays (your company, INSS or mutua).

- 1.You go to your health centre or the company’s mutua and they give you the baja médica. Since 2023 you don’t have to hand the part to your company: they receive it electronically.
- 2.Log into Tu Seguridad Social with Cl@ve or certificado (https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/wps/portal/tuss) and check that your baja, personal details and IBAN appear. If the IBAN is missing, update it.
- 3.If you are an employee and your company does pago delegado, normally you don’t apply: the company pays you in payroll and settles with INSS/mutua.
- 4.If you are entitled to pago directo (end of contract, domestic workers, companies without pago delegado, non-payments, ERE), submit the online application on the Sede del INSS under ‘Incapacidad, invalidez y supervivencia’ (https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/wps/portal/sede/sede/Inicio/ciudadanos/proteccion-social/incapacidad-invalidez-y-supervivencia) attaching the partes and your IBAN.
- 5.If you are autónomo, check on Importass (https://importass.seg-social.es) which mutua covers you and process the pago directo on your mutua’s website (they’ll ask for the declaración de situación de actividad and the partes).
- 6.Keep submitting the partes de confirmación as they issue them and, when they give you the alta, you’ll see it in Tu Seguridad Social. Check the first payment: it usually arrives between the 1ª and 3ª week depending on who pays.
