Register your dog in the Ajuntament de Barcelona dog census

What you need on hand

1. Certificado digital/DNIe, Cl@ve Permanente or idCAT Mòbil (without one you can’t sign).
2. Microchip number and implantation date (on the vet certificate or EU passport).
3. Your details: NIF/NIE, address in Barcelona, mobile and email.
4. Documents as PDF/JPG: microchip certificate, cartilla/pasaporte; if applicable, licencia PPP and póliza de RC.

Documentation

• Justificante del microchip (veterinary certificate or cartilla/pasaporte with the number and date).
• Adoption or transfer contract if you’re not the first owner.
• Municipal PPP licence and RC policy (only if your dog is classified as PPP).
• They don’t ask for a paper padrón, but you must state the Barcelona address where the animal lives.

Step by step

1. Go to the Seu Electrònica: https://seuelectronica.ajuntament.barcelona.cat/APPS/portaltramits/formulari/ptbaltaanimals/T40/continuar/ca/PTCIU.html?stepName=viewSeleccioStep
2. Identify yourself with certificado/DNIe, Cl@ve Permanente or idCAT Mòbil.
3. Fill in the owner and the dog details: microchip, name, breed, sex, date of birth and whether sterilised.
4. Attach the microchip justificante and, if needed, the licencia PPP and the insurance. Prefer clear, small PDFs (under 10 MB).
5. Review and sign. The system produces a resguardo with número de expediente. Keep it.
6. You’ll get an email confirming submission. Validation normally takes 1–3 días. If the microchip isn’t in the AIAC database they’ll ask you to sort it with your vet.

Tricks that save time

• Use Chrome or Edge and accept the sede cookies. Uploads fail less often.
• If the portal offers firma with an SMS code, use it; it’s usually faster than wrestling with AutoFirma.
• Check the microchip number on the cartilla before sending. One wrong digit and they block it.
• If you adopted, scan the contract as a single PDF. You’ll avoid extra requests.
• Keep the resguardo and the PDF del alta. They’ll ask for them if you change district or vet.

Common mistakes that will mess up the trámite

1. Trying to register without a microchip: they’ll reject it. Vet first, census second.
2. Microchip not uploaded to AIAC: even if you have the paper, if the vet didn’t upload the data the Ajuntament can’t cross-check and won’t validate.
3. Huge or blurry files: if they’re unreadable they’ll ask you to resend.
4. Marking breed as PPP without the licence: they’ll request licence and insurance and the trámite will stall.
5. Wrong contact details: if the email is wrong you won’t get requirements and the expediente will hang.
