Register on the municipal register (empadronamiento) at your Ayuntamiento
You register on the municipality's padrón where you live. You need it for GP, school places, voting and many other procedures. It's for anyone who actually lives in that municipality, whether or not the rental contract is in your name.

- 1.Go to your Ayuntamiento’s sede electrónica and look for “Padrón” or “Empadronamiento”. If they offer an online procedure, access with Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe (examples: sede.madrid.es, ajuntament.barcelona.cat, sede.valencia.es).
- 2.Download and fill in the hoja padronal of your Ayuntamiento. If you register at someone else’s address, have the property holder sign it too.
- 3.If you can’t do it online or prefer in person, book a cita previa in the Padrón/Habitantes section of your Ayuntamiento (many use their cita previa web).
- 4.Go to the appointment with originals and copies of all documents. Hand in the hoja padronal and the proofs. They usually register you on the spot if everything checks out.
- 5.If you do it online, upload clean scans and sign the application with Cl@ve Firma or your certificado. Save the receipt and watch notifications in your municipal citizen folder.
- 6.Once registered, download or request the volante/certificado de empadronamiento. The new Ayuntamiento will automatically request the baja from your previous municipality; you don’t need to do it.
