Can I check someone else’s points?

No. It’s personal data. You can only see yours by logging in yourself. To represent someone they’d need to formally authorise you and, even then, the DGT usually requires the holder’s authentication.

When does my balance update after a fine?

When the sanction is firm and recorded. Don’t expect it to drop the same day you pay. It can take several weeks.

I don’t have Cl@ve or a certificate, can I still see it?

Yes. On the sede you can create a user/password with your DNI/NIE, licence number and the fecha 4a. Still, Cl@ve is more reliable and works for many other procedures.

How many points do you start with and how do they increase?

If you’re a new driver or after recovering the licence, you start with 8. With no serious/very serious infractions, you go to 12 after 2 years and up to 15 after a further 3 years without losing points.

Can I download a justificante of my points?

Yes. The sede lets you view balance and history and download/print a justificante. Save the PDF if your employer or a course asks for it.

I get an error with the date of issue, what do I do?

Check the back of the licence: campo 4a (expedición) and 4b (validez). Use the 4a from the current plastic. If you renewed recently, wait a few days and try another browser.

1.Go to the official Consulta de puntos page: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/permisos-de-conducir/consulta-de-puntos/
2.Click "Acceder online" and choose how to log in: Cl@ve (PIN or Permanente), Certificado digital/DNIe, or Usuario/Contraseña (if you already registered).
3.If you use Cl@ve PIN: open the Cl@ve app, generate the PIN and enter it on the sede (it expires in minutes, don’t faff about).
4.If you prefer usuario/contraseña and don’t have one: on the same page register with your DNI/NIE, licence number and the date of issue (campo 4a of your licence), then confirm your email.
5.Once inside, go to "Consulta de saldo de puntos" and, for details, "Historial". Download or print the justificante PDF from the sede.
6.You can also do it from your phone: install the miDGT app (https://www.dgt.es/midgt/), log in with Cl@ve and go to "Mis puntos".
7.If you want to do it in person: book a cita previa at a Jefatura from the DGT sede, bring your DNI and licence, and they will print the balance at the desk.
