Check ITV status and expiry at the DGT

What you need to have to hand

1. Cl@ve PIN/Permanente, certificado digital o DNIe to identify yourself if you want to see your vehicles in miDGT.
2. Matrícula o bastidor if you will order a informe DGT for someone else’s car.
3. Tarjeta bancaria if you opt for the Informe completo (Tasa 4.1).
4. Mobile with the app miDGT or a browser that doesn’t choke (Chrome usually behaves better with the sede).

Documentation

• DNI/NIE en vigor.
• Cl@ve/Certificado (only if you will view your own data in miDGT).
• Matrícula o bastidor for reports of other people’s vehicles.
• Tasa 4.1 (only for Informe completo) if you want history and kilometres.

Step by step

1. If you are the owner:
   • Open the app miDGT (the official DGT app). ID with Cl@ve or certificado.
   • Under Vehículos, select your car or bike and go to Inspección técnica. You’ll see the fecha de caducidad and the last result (favorable/desfavorable/negativa).
   • If you need a PDF, take a screenshot or generate an Informe completo from the sede (optional).
2. If you are not the owner and want to check the ITV:
   • Go to https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/informe-de-vehiculo/.
   • Click Informe reducido (gratuito), enter the matrícula and download the PDF. It will tell you if the ITV is valid.
3. If you need the history (for buying: kilometres, inspection dates):
   • From the same page, choose Informe completo.
   • Pay the Tasa 4.1 (8,67€) with card or use a código de tasa you already have (more info at https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/tramites-y-multas/tasas/).
   • Download the PDF immediately.
4. If you just passed the ITV and it doesn’t show:
   • Wait 24–72 horas. The upload from the station to the DGT is not immediate. Meanwhile, keep the resguardo de la ITV in the car.

Tips that save time

• miDGT is free and enough to see the expiry if the car is yours. Don’t pay for the report if you don’t need the history.
• If the sede won’t let you download, switch browser or try outside peak hours (evenings/nights often work better).
• Buying a car? Get the Informe completo: it shows kilometros recorded at ITV and administrative hits. It can save you headaches.
• If the plate is very old or the vehicle is histórico, check periodicities: the expiry you see might be different from the ordinary one.

Common mistakes that can mess up the process

1. Trusting an ITV appointment: you can still be fined 200€ even with an appointment. The appointment doesn’t exempt you.
2. Thinking the informe reducido covers everything: it does not include kilometros nor history. For buying/selling, get the completo.
3. Not waiting after passing ITV: many panic because it shows expired the same day. Give it 48–72 h.
4. Paying the fee and leaving before downloading: the Tasa 4.1 is non-refundable. Download the PDF and save it.
5. Not identifying yourself in miDGT: without Cl@ve/certificado you won’t see your vehicles in the app. If you can’t, use the informe reducido as a workaround.
