Distintivo ambiental DGT (pegatina B, C, ECO o Cero)

What you need to have to hand

1. Matrícula to check your category on the DGT.
2. Permiso de circulación for the vehicle.
3. DNI/NIE of the owner.
4. Autorización if someone else buys it (and a copy of their DNI).
5. CIF and proof of representation if it’s a company vehicle.
6. Shipping address if you buy online at Correos.
7. Ficha técnica/ITV updated if you have GLP or a plug-in hybrid.

Documentación

• Permiso de circulación (original or copy) and DNI/NIE of the owner.
• Autorización escrita from the owner + copy of their DNI if a third party acts for them.
• CIF and representation document for a company (power of attorney, business card, etc.).
• Ficha técnica with the conversion noted (GLP, plug-in hybrid) if you want the ECO distintivo.
• Shipping details (name, full address, phone) if buying online.

Step by step

1. Check your distintivo at the DGT: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/distintivo-ambiental/ (enter matrícula and see if you’re B, C, ECO or Cero). Sin Cl@ve.
2. Buy at Correos (office): take DNI and permiso de circulación. Pay 5 € and you leave with the sticker.
3. Buy online at Correos: https://www.correos.es. Enter matrícula and shipping details, pay, and it arrives in 2–7 días hábiles.
4. Third parties or companies: signed authorisation + copy of owner’s DNI, or CIF and proof of representation for companies. For multiple vehicles ask Correos about bulk orders.
5. Place the sticker: lower right of the windscreen (inside). For bikes, place where it’s clearly visible on the fairing. Clean the surface so it sticks.
6. Vehicles with conversions: if you fitted GLP or have a plug-in hybrid and it’s not on the ficha técnica/Registro, go to the ITV and get it annotated first. Then buy the correct ECO distintivo.

Tips that save time

• Office is faster than online if you’re in a hurry: you walk out with it.
• Bring the permiso de circulación even if sometimes Correos will accept just the matrícula; if they’re strict you won’t waste a trip.
• If buying for someone else, have the autorización ready. A simple page with vehicle details and the owner’s signature works.
• If you’re a company with many vehicles, ask Correos about grouped orders to avoid queuing.
• If your car was converted to GLP, don’t buy anything until it’s recorded in the ficha técnica. You’ll avoid buying twice.

Common mistakes that mess this up

• Buying from non-official sites for 15–20 €: you’re overpaying for the same sticker. The official channel is Correos for 5 €.
• Assuming the DGT sends the sticker: the DGT only informs which category applies; Correos sells the sticker.
• Entering a ZBE thinking the sticker is enough: fines are for the vehicle category, not the adhesive.
• Not displaying it where required in cities that demand it: even if cameras read matriculas, if the ordinance requires a visible pegatina you can be fined.
• GLP/plug-in not recorded: the DGT will classify you as C and you’ll buy the wrong sticker. First go to ITV, then buy.
