Identify the driver for a fine (DGT)
Voluntary period: 20 calendar days. After that, +50% surcharge applies.
Use this to tell the DGT who was driving your car when a fine arrived and you weren't stopped. It prevents a sanction for failing to identify and makes any points (if applicable) go to the actual driver.

- 1.Go to sede.dgt.gob.es > Multas > Identificar conductor (direct link on the page) and click Tramitar.
- 2.Log in with Cl@ve or certificado digital. If you don't have either, use the option without certificate by entering the case number, matrícula and the notification details they ask for.
- 3.Enter the case details (nº de expediente, notification date) and confirm the vehicle matrícula.
- 4.Fill in the driver's details: NIF/NIE or passport, full name, address, licence number and country of issue.
- 5.Check everything carefully (one wrong digit and they'll reject it). Sign the identification with Cl@ve Firma or your certificado (it may request AutoFirma).
- 6.Download and save the PDF receipt. The DGT will notify the identified driver with a new fine showing the discount and, if applicable, point deduction.
- 7.Paper alternative: fill the identification form included in the notification and send it to the Jefatura shown on the letter or submit it in person at Registro (if you go in person they usually require cita previa).
