Pay a DGT traffic fine (with or without 50% discount)
Use this to pay traffic fines issued by the DGT/Guardia Civil. It works if you have the número de expediente and want the 50% discount within the 20 natural days.

What you need to have at hand
- Número de expediente of the fine (on the letter or PDF).
- NIF/NIE of the fined person (or CIF if it’s a company).
- Date of notification and amount (to check if the 50% applies).
- Bank card or Bizum. In person, only card.
- If you go in person, cita previa at the Jefatura.

- If someone else pays for you, they must have your expediente details (the DGT does not require an authorization just to pay).
Step by step
- Go to https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/multas/pagar-multas/.
- Choose pagar sin identificación (fast) or con Cl@ve if you want to view the expediente first.
- Enter expediente and NIF/NIE. You’ll see the amount with or without the 50% depending on the deadline.
- Select card or Bizum, confirm and pay. Download the justificante (save it somewhere safe).
- Alternative: call 060 with expediente and identifier and pay by card.
- In person: book cita previa at the Jefatura and pay by card; or go to Correos with the notification (they usually charge a commission).
Time-saving tips
- If you’re within the 20 natural days, take the 50% and move on if you’re clear-cut.
- If the fine is doubtful or you weren’t the driver, don’t pay: first identify the driver or prepare alegaciones.
- Make a double screenshot or download of the justificante and upload it to your cloud. It saves you if there are later cross-check errors.
- If the website misbehaves, try a different browser or visit outside peak hours. 060 usually works well for quick payments.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Paying with the discount and then wanting to appeal: you can’t.
- Mixing up municipal fines with DGT fines: municipal ones aren’t on the Sede de la DGT.
- Letting the 20 days lapse: you lose the 50% and then face recargos.
- Going to Jefatura without a cita or with cash: you’ll go home without paying.
- Not keeping the justificante: if there’s a late cross-over, claiming without proof is a nightmare.

- 2.Choose to pay without identification or with Cl@ve if you want to see the expediente; enter the número de expediente and NIF/NIE.
- 3.Check if you are within the 20 natural days for the 50% and verify the amount shown.
- 4.Select the payment method (card or Bizum), confirm and pay. The justificante downloads immediately.
- 5.If you prefer phone, call 060 with expediente, NIF/NIE and the amount, and pay by card.
- 6.To pay in person, book cita previa at the Jefatura (card only) or go to Correos with the notification (they charge a commission).

- Vehicle registration (matrícula) — sometimes they ask for it as a verification detail
50% discount
Only during 20 natural days from the notification (or from publication on the Tablón Edictal Único). If you pay with the discount you waive alegaciones and recursos.
Careful if you weren't the driver
Don’t pay if you need to identify another person. First identify the conductor; if you pay, you close the expediente and you won’t be able to do that afterwards.
Not for municipal fines
Municipal fines (blue zone, traffic lights in your city…) are paid on the ayuntamiento website, not at the DGT.
Non-payment = surcharges and seizure
Outside the voluntary period it goes to vía ejecutiva: recargo (normally 20%), interest and possible embargo. Don’t leave it.
Office no cash
Jefaturas only accept card. Correos usually charge a commission for processing the payment.
Can I pay without Cl@ve?
Yes. With the número de expediente and your NIF/NIE you can pay from the Sede de la DGT or by phone 060. Cl@ve is only needed to consult the full expediente.
When do I get the 50% discount?
During 20 natural days from when you are notified (or from publication on the Tablón Edictal Único if they couldn’t find you). After that you pay 100%.
If I pay, do they still remove points?
Yes. Paying does not stop points being deducted if the infringement carries them. The 50% discount only affects the money, not the points.
Can I pay and then appeal?
If you pay with the 50% you waive alegaciones and recursos. If you want to appeal, don’t use the discount; wait for the sanction to be firme and follow the appeal deadlines.
Can I pay in cash?
At Jefaturas, no. Card only. Correos often accept cash but will charge a commission for the service.
Can I pay a municipal fine here?
No. Each ayuntamiento has its own website and payment methods. The DGT site is for DGT/Guardia Civil sanctions.
