European Digital Identifier with Cl@ve/FNMT (use your EU identity)

I explain how to set up your Cl@ve/FNMT so you can identify yourself at public services in other EU countries (eIDAS). Good if you live, study or handle admin abroad and don’t want to carry stacks of paper.

- 1.Check if you already have a high-level credential: go to https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/certificados/persona-fisica and see if you have a valid certificate or if your DNIe and PIN are active.
- 2.If you don't have one, get the FNMT Persona Física certificate: at https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/certificados/persona-fisica/obtener-certificado-software request the code, prove your identity by the available channels and download the certificate (install Configurador FNMT first).
- 3.Register in Cl@ve with certificate/DNIe (advanced registration): go to https://www.clave.gob.es, choose Registro, pick "Con certificado o DNIe" and enter your mobile and email. You will get an SMS to confirm.
- 4.Activate Cl@ve Permanente: from https://www.clave.gob.es go to your user area and create the Cl@ve Permanente password. This is the method usually accepted as eIDAS "sustancial/alto" level.
- 5.Test your Digital Identifier on a public service: log into https://carpetaciudadana.gob.es with Cl@ve Permanente and, when using services from other EU countries, choose "Usar tu eID nacional (España – Cl@ve)" in the eIDAS gateway.
- 6.Keep a copy/backup of the certificate and the Cl@ve Permanente password in a safe place. If you change device or lose the cert, you'll have to revoke and re-issue it.
