Guía completa
What you need to have to hand
- DNI/NIE and a working mobile phone.
- Exact address for collection (street, number, portal and floor).
- List of items with a clear description (3-seater sofa, 150 mattress, washing machine, etc.).
- Approximate measurements/weight of large items (rough guide, no surgical tape needed).
- Photos if the form allows them (avoids arguments).
- If you’re going to the punto limpio: DNI and, just in case, a bill with the address or certificado de empadronamiento.
Documentation
- Identification: DNI/NIE or passport.
- Contact details: mobile and email.
- Full address of the portal where you’ll leave the items in the assigned slot.
- Waste details: type, number of pieces and estimated measurements/weight.
- Photos of the material (optional but useful).
- Vehicle registration if you’ll enter the punto limpio by car.
Step by step
- Find the municipal procedure on your town hall site: “Recogida de muebles y enseres” or “Punto limpio/Ecoparque”. If there’s no form, call 010.
- Pick the option: home collection (they give you a day/slot) or you take it in (note address and opening hours of the fixed or mobile punto limpio).
- Sort: bulky items separate; RAEE (appliances/electronics) with cables intact; hazardous (paints, oil, aerosols) only at the punto limpio. Rubble needs a manager or an accepting punto limpio.
- Prepare the items: bundle what you can without risking safety. Don’t leave them in the street before the allowed time.
- Hand over: if collection, put items on the pavement in the assigned slot; if you go to the punto limpio, show your DNI, declare what you bring and respect kg/unit limits.
- Issues: if you can’t make it, change or cancel. Better than getting fined for leaving stuff out of hours.
Tricks that save time
- If you buy a new appliance, force the shop to take away the old one (1x1). Saves a hassle.
- Photos in the form: clear up doubts and stop the truck skipping your pickup.
- Best times at puntos limpios: early or mid-morning, fewer queues.
- If the website fails, try another browser or reduce photo size. Many municipal sites are picky.
- For several items, request a single collection listing all pieces. Avoid split appointments.
Typical mistakes that can derail your process
- Leaving the sofa the night before: fine and possible non-collection.
- Mixing hazardous waste (paints/oils) with bulky items: they won’t touch it. It goes to the punto limpio.
- Putting rubble in a bulky-item collection: guaranteed rejection. Find an authorised manager or an accepting punto limpio.
- Exceeding punto limpio limits: they’ll make you come back another day.
- Not being reachable when they call to confirm: you lose the slot.
- 1.Go to your town hall website and look for the procedure “Recogida de muebles y enseres” or “Punto limpio / Ecoparque”. Fill the online form with your details, address, types of waste and number of items. If there’s no form, call 010 (or the municipal cleaning number) and open a report.
- 2.Choose how you’ll do it: home collection or you take it yourself. If collection, they assign a day and time slot; if punto limpio, note the address, opening hours and whether it’s fixed or mobile.
- 3.Prepare the waste: separate bulky items (furniture/mattress), RAEE (appliances and electronics) and hazardous waste (paints, aerosols, oil). Hazardous waste is usually only accepted at the punto limpio; they don’t normally pick it up from the street.
- 4.On the assigned collection day, bring the items down to the pavement next to your portal within the indicated time slot. Don’t block passage and don’t leave them the night before. Keep the reference number of the report in case of issues.
- 5.If you’re going to the punto limpio, take your DNI and, if requested, proof of address in the municipality. Declare what you’re delivering and respect the centre’s unit/kg limits per day.
- 6.If you can’t make the assigned day, change or cancel the collection via the same form or by calling 010. Better that than leaving stuff on the street and getting fined.
- DNI/NIE or passport (to ID yourself and, at some puntos limpios, to prove you live in the municipality)
- Full pickup address (street, number, portal, floor and postal code)
- Mobile phone and email (for notifications and confirmations)
- Description of the waste and number of items (furniture, mattress, washing machine, paint, etc.)
- Approximate measurements or estimated weight of each item (HxWxD) if they ask
- Photos of what you want removed (many forms allow attachments and it helps)
- Vehicle registration if you’ll drive into the punto limpio (some record it at access)
Fine for abandoning waste
Leaving furniture or appliances on the street without notice or outside the allowed time can get you fined. Municipal by-laws usually set fines starting at 300€ and they can rise a lot depending on the case.
They don’t collect rubble or construction waste
Bags of rubble, toilets, plaster and the like are not ‘enseres’. Take them to a punto limpio that accepts them or hire an authorised waste manager.
Limits on items and kg
There’s usually a cap per collection (for example 3–5 items) and daily limits at puntos limpios. If you exceed them, they can refuse part of it or ask you to come another day.
RAEE: 1x1 shop obligation
If you buy a new appliance, the shop must collect the old equivalent for free (1x1). Demand it and you’ll save a trip to the punto limpio.
Quirky municipal sites
Many municipal forms work best in Chrome and with small attachments. If you get a strange error, try another browser or reduce photo size.
What do they pick up from the kerbside and what not?
Typical bulky items: furniture, mattresses, bed bases, large appliances. They don’t pick up rubble, construction waste, tyres or hazardous waste (paints, oils, aerosols). Take those to the punto limpio.
Can I be fined if I leave the sofa the night before?
Yes. You must put it out in the slot the town hall gives you. Leaving it earlier usually leads to a fine and sometimes they won’t collect it.
How long until they collect the items?
Depends on service load and your neighbourhood. Normal wait: between 1 and 7 days. When you open a report online or via 010 they give you a day and slot.
Can I bring paints, oil or solvents?
Yes, but only to the punto limpio (sometimes only to fixed centres, not the mobile ones). Bring them in their original, sealed containers and stay within the delivery limits.
Do they collect mattresses and sofas?
Yes, they usually count as enseres. Indicate approximate dimensions and number of pieces. If you have many, they may split the collection into several visits.
Do I need to be registered (empadronado) to use the punto limpio?
Many puntos limpios require proof of residence in the municipality. Bring your DNI and, if asked, a recent bill or a certificado de empadronamiento.
I bought a new washing machine, do I have to take the old one to the punto limpio?
Not necessarily. The shop is obliged to remove the old one free of charge when delivering the new one (1x1). Ask for it when you buy.
