INSS home help: third-person supplement (Gran Invalidez)

A miscalculated claim costs hundreds per month. We review your contribution base.

If you need daily help (washing, dressing, moving) this is how you ask the INSS for the supplement to your pension for Gran Invalidez. It's for people applying for recognition of Gran Invalidez or asking for a review of their incapacity to include that supplement.

Guía completa

What you need at hand
  1. Cl@ve (PIN or Permanent) or certificado digital/DNIe. Without this you’ll have to file on paper and it takes longer.
  2. Recent medical reports: specialists, tests, history, diagnoses.
  3. Resolución previa of incapacity if you’re asking for revisión por agravación to be recognised as Gran Invalidez.
  4. IBAN where you get the pension.
  5. DNI/NIE and your número de la Seguridad Social.
Documentation
  • Medical reports and tests in PDF, readable. Better separated by specialty.
  • Resolución anterior de IP (total/absoluta) if you’re asking for revisión por agravación.
  • Tarjeta sanitaria or document from your autonomous service (to identify health centre/hospital).
  • Certificado de empresa or vida laboral if you’ve worked recently (for contribution bases and employment status).
  • Autorización de representación if someone files for you (with their DNI).
  • IBAN of the account.
Step by step
  1. Enter https://tramites.seg-social.es and look for the Incapacidad permanente (INSS) procedure.
  2. Identify yourself with Cl@ve or certificate. If it fails, clear cache or try another browser (yes, it happens).
  3. Choose whether it’s reconocimiento of incapacidad permanente (if you don’t have IP) or revisión por agravación (if you want Gran Invalidez).
  4. Fill in your details and clearly explain why you need ayuda de tercera persona for essential acts (washing, dressing, moving, eating). Be specific.
  5. Attach medical reports in PDF. No blurred photos. If they’re large, compress them (keep legible) and upload in batches.
  6. Sign and send. Download the justificante; it’s gold if you need to appeal.
  7. Wait for the EVI appointment. Go with your DNI and, if possible, copies of key reports. After the assessment, the resolution will arrive by letter or in DEHú (https://dehu.redsara.es).
Tricks that save you time
  • PDF and under 10 MB per file. The portal chokes on huge attachments.
  • Order reports by date and specialty; it makes life easier for the EVI and for you.
  • If you’re missing reports, submit anyway and then add more by registro (same expediente) when you have them.
  • Check Mi Carpeta Ciudadana for notifications and appointments; sometimes letters arrive late.
  • If you don’t have Cl@ve, use the “Presentación de escritos y solicitudes (INSS)” channel on the sede or the electronic registro, but add a clear contact method.
Common mistakes that can mess up the process
  1. Confusing this with municipal home help: the INSS does not send carers; this is only the complemento económico for third-person need.
  2. Not attending the EVI appointment: if you miss it without justification, the file can be archived. Then you’ll have to start again.
  3. Uploading unreadable photos of reports: if they can’t be read, they won’t count.
  4. Not asking for a review when your IP has worsened: the Gran Invalidez supplement doesn’t arrive on its own; you must request it.
  5. Sleeping on deadlines: if they deny you, you have 30 días hábiles for a prior reclamation. After that, legal routes follow.
  1. 1.Go to https://tramites.seg-social.es and search for “Incapacidad permanente (INSS)”.
  2. 2.Identify yourself with Cl@ve (PIN or Permanent) or certificado digital/DNIe.
  3. 3.Fill in the application: if you don’t have IP, tick recognition of incapacidad permanente; if you already have IP, tick review for agravación and state you request Gran Invalidez (help from a third person).
  4. 4.Attach the medical reports and the previous resolution (if any) in PDF. Watch file size: upload clear PDFs.
  5. 5.Check contact details and the IBAN, sign electronically and send. Download the justificante.
  6. 6.Wait for the EVI (Equipo de Valoración de Incapacidades) appointment. Watch your postal mail and notifications at https://dehu.redsara.es or in your Carpeta Ciudadana. Keep everything.
  • DNI/NIE and Social Security number (NAF)
  • Resolución anterior de incapacidad (if you already have a recognised IP and are asking for a review)
  • Recent medical reports from specialists and tests (hospital, health centre), in PDF
  • Tarjeta sanitaria or document from your autonomous health service
  • Bank account number (IBAN) for pension/supplement payment
  • Certificado de empresa or recent vida laboral if you’re working or stopped recently (for contribution bases and employment status)
  • Documento de representación if someone else acts for you (signed authorisation and their DNI)
