Paternity benefit (Nacimiento y cuidado del menor) from the INSS
Retroactive registration: 60 days. After that, contributions are not recognised.
This is the benefit that pays your paternity leave (now called nacimiento y cuidado del menor). Paid by the INSS and available for trabajadores por cuenta ajena and autónomos who have just had or adopted a child.

- 1.Inscribe the baby in the Registro Civil (if the hospital hasn’t done it). Without registration the INSS won’t see the birth.
- 2.Go to Tu Seguridad Social with Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe: https://tu.seg-social.gob.es
- 3.Inside, open “Nacimiento y cuidado del menor” and click “Solicitar”. Enter date of birth, employer, modality (full or part-time), periods and your bank account.
- 4.Attach anything they can’t fetch: certificado de empresa (if it’s not sent via RED), partial‑time agreement, adoption/guardianship resolution.
- 5.Sign and submit. Download the receipt. Watch notifications in Tu Seguridad Social and in Carpeta Ciudadana: https://carpetaciudadana.gob.es
- 6.If you’re autónomo, check in Import@ss that the quota exemption during the benefit is applied: https://importass.seg-social.es
