What you need to have to hand
- Cl@ve, certificado digital or DNIe that works. Without it you’ll struggle to submit online.
- Resguardo de matrícula for the course showing the Seguro Escolar fee paid.
- Medical reports/urgent care notes for the accident or illness (clear dates).
- Original invoices and proof of payment (bank transfer, TPV) in the student’s name.
- IBAN where you want the reimbursement. If the student is a minor, a document proving representation.
- If the cost is big (prosthesis, expensive tests), try to get prior authorisation from the INSS.
Documentation
- DNI/NIE of the student and, if a minor, of the parent/legal guardian.
- Matrícula for the course showing the Seguro Escolar fee paid.
- Parte de accidente from the educational centre (if the accident happened in class, playground, school activity or in itinere).
- Medical reports linking the expense to the causative event, and prescriptions if medicines are involved.
- Original, itemised invoices and proof of payment. Tickets without details are not valid.
- IBAN of the beneficiary. If it doesn’t match the student, add authorisation/representation.
- Prior authorisation from the INSS when required (high‑cost tests/treatments).
Step by step
- Check you qualify: under 28, enrolled from 3.º de ESO, and the Seguro Escolar fee paid on the matrícula.
- Collect reports, the centre’s parte and invoices. If something’s missing, ask the doctor or the school now.
- Go to sede.seg-social.gob.es and find the INSS service for “Seguro Escolar/Prestaciones”. Log in with Cl@ve.
- Fill the form: personal details, course, date of the event and a short description of the expense.
- Attach legible PDFs/JPGs: matrícula, medical/urgent report, invoices and proofs of payment, and the centre’s parte if relevant.
- Put the IBAN and tick if you act as representative. Upload the representation document if the student is a minor.
- Submit, download the receipt with the CSV and keep everything in a folder (they will ask for stuff, definitely).
- If they ask for more, go back to the sede and use “Aportar documentación” on the expediente. Don’t leave it to the last day.
Tricks that save time
- Ask the school for the parte de accidente the same day or the next. Later they often refuse to sign it.
- Invoices must be in the student’s name from the start. Changing them later is a circus.
- If you’re unsure about prior authorisation, check with the INSS first; paying first and asking later usually ends badly.
- Upload good‑quality PDFs under 10 MB each. If a file is too big, split by type (invoices, reports…).
- Keep the CSV from the registry. If the expediente seems to disappear, that CSV helps them find it.
Common mistakes that can derail your claim
- Filing after the deadline: roughly 1 año from the event is a hard limit in many cases.
- Submitting tickets instead of invoices: they don’t count. Ask for an invoice with CIF, student name and itemised concept.
- Expenses not linked to the causative event: they’ll reject them. Everything must be backed by the medical report.
- IBAN of another person without proof of representation: payment blocked or claim denied.
- Not requesting prior authorisation for expensive treatments: afterwards there may be no reimbursement and a big headache.
- 1.Go to the Sede Electrónica de la Seguridad Social (sede.seg-social.gob.es) and look for the “Seguro Escolar” or “Prestaciones del INSS” service.
- 2.Log in with Cl@ve (or certificado digital/DNIe) on the sede.
- 3.Fill in the Seguro Escolar benefits application: student details, course and the causative event (accident/illness).
- 4.Attach the matrícula with the Seguro Escolar fee paid, the medical/urgent report and the justified invoices (PDF/JPG legible).
- 5.Enter the IBAN for the reimbursement and, if the student is a minor, upload the document proving representation/authorisation.
- 6.Send the application and save the receipt with the CSV.
- 7.Watch the expediente status on the sede and, if requested, provide extra documents via “Aportar documentación a un trámite” on the same sede.
- DNI/NIE of the student (and of the legal representative if the student is a minor)
- Resguardo de matrícula for the course (showing payment of the Seguro Escolar fee)
- Medical/urgent care report that proves the accident or illness
- Original invoices and proof of payment (in the student’s name) for tests, treatments or medicines
- IBAN for the payment (in the student’s name or the representative’s with authorisation)
- Parte de accidente issued by the educational centre (if applicable)
- Prior authorisation from the INSS if you requested expensive tests/treatments (if you have it)
Deadline to claim
You have an approximate deadline of up to 1 año from the causative event to claim Seguro Escolar benefits. Don’t leave it until the last minute: if the deadline passes, they can deny it.
Prior authorisation for expensive tests
For high‑cost treatments/tests, the INSS usually requires prior authorisation. If you pay out of pocket without that authorisation, the reimbursement may be denied.
Invoices and names
Invoices must be made out to the student. Simple receipts (tickets) are not valid. If the student is a minor, include representation and make clear who will receive the IBAN payment.
