Procedure to register your dog, cat or ferret in your town council's pet register. Useful to keep municipal ID up to date and avoid fines if you're stopped or there's an incident.

- 1.Check the microchip is registered in the regional database (the vet does this and gives you the justificante). Without this the town hall will not register the animal.
- 2.Log in to your town council's Sede Electrónica with Cl@ve or a digital certificate and search for “Censo municipal de animales de compañía”. Examples: Madrid https://sede.madrid.es, Barcelona https://seu.barcelona.cat, Valencia https://sede.valencia.es.
- 3.Fill in the online form: owner and address details, animal details (species, breed, sex, colour, date of birth), microchip number and vet details.
- 4.Attach PDFs/JPGs of the cartilla or pasaporte (with valid rabies if applicable), justificante of the microchip in the regional registry, proof of origin, empadronamiento and, if relevant, insurance/licence.
- 5.Sign and submit with Cl@ve Firma or a digital certificate. Download the registration receipt (expediente number).
- 6.Watch notifications on the sede or in your Carpeta Ciudadana (https://carpetaciudadana.gob.es) in case they ask you to fix something. When they record it, download the animal's certificate/card from the sede.
