Tarjeta Dorada municipal (senior/disability profile for transport and local services)

What to have ready

1. Cl@ve, Certificado digital or DNIe. Without one of these you can't do the online part.
2. Be empadronado in the municipio (better with a recent certificado).
3. Know the ground you apply on: age, disability ≥33% or pensión por incapacidad.
4. A passport-size photo if your city issues a physical card.

Documentation

1. DNI/NIE in force.
2. Certificado de empadronamiento (less than 3 months) or authorise the ayuntamiento to check it.
3. Passport photo with white background (if they issue a physical card).
4. Discapacidad: resolución or tarjeta acreditativa (≥33%).
5. Pensión/incapacidad: resolución de la Seguridad Social or certificate.
6. Ingresos/IRPF: only if your ayuntamiento requires an income limit for free issue.
7. Formulario de solicitud for Tarjeta Ciudadana/Dorada (available on the sede).

Step by step

1. Go to your ayuntamiento’s sede. If it’s Zaragoza, go to https://www.zaragoza.es/sede/servicio/tarjeta-ciudadana/ and choose nueva tarjeta or activar perfil Dorada.
2. Identify with Cl@ve or certificado and fill in the application: personal details, reason (age/disability/pensión) and consent to check padrón/data.
3. Upload the documents scanned. Watch out for expired padróns and selfie photos: they’ll reject them.
4. Book a cita previa for verification or collection (Zaragoza: https://www.zaragoza.es/sede/servicio/cita-previa/). Choose office and date.
5. Attend with originals. If everything matches, they’ll activate the Dorada profile on the spot. If a physical card is needed and not available, they’ll give a pickup date.
6. Check the profile is active: in the transport app/web or at a top-up machine. Make a top-up/validation and confirm the discounted fares apply.

Time-saving tricks

1. Upload readable PDFs and a proper passport photo (white background, no hats). Saves trips.
2. If citas are impossible, try at 08:00 or a different office. Central offices fill up fast.
3. Tick the autorizo consulta de datos box (padrón/SS) if they offer it. You avoid sending certificates.
4. If you already have a Tarjeta Ciudadana, request only profile activation; don’t order a duplicate card unnecessarily.
5. For duplicates after loss, call or check the sede: they usually allow blocking online and ordering a duplicado after paying a small fee.

Common mistakes that can ruin the process

1. Not being empadronado or an expired padrón: immediate rejection.
2. Invalid photo (selfie, dark background): rejection and another appointment.
3. Disability <33% or incomplete documents: no bonus activation.
4. Not bringing originals to the appointment: they’ll make you come back.
5. Review deadlines: if they ask you to renew docs (income/disability) and you miss it, they’ll deactivate the Dorada until you fix it.
