What you need to have ready
- Cl@ve or certificado digital to enter the sede electrónica of your Ayuntamiento.
- Property details (referencia catastral, exact address, whether it’s a local, communal garage, etc.).
- Measurements of the access (width of the gate and pavement) and if you plan to lower the bordillo.
- Contact for inspection (mobile available) and time to answer Policía Local if they come.
Documentation
- DNI/NIE of the applicant and, if applicable, CIF of the comunidad or company.
- Título de propiedad or contrato de alquiler of the premises/space + referencia catastral.
- Scaled plan of the access (width, bordillo to occupy). If there’s work, croquis/proyecto signed by a técnico.
- Authorisation from the comunidad de propietarios (acta or certificate) if the façade is shared.
- Licencia/comunicación de obra menor to lower the bordillo, when needed.
- Photos of the façade and surroundings (corners, nearby pedestrian crossings).
- IAE if it’s a business activity (workshop, warehouse…).
- Proof of payment of the processing tasa/autoliquidación.
Step by step
- Find the trámite on your Ayuntamiento’s sede (keywords: "Vado permanente", "Paso de vehículos", "Reserva de espacio"). Log in with Cl@ve or certificado.
- Fill the application and attach all documents. If it’s a communal garage, have the community request it or attach their authorisation.
- If you need to lower the bordillo, apply first for the obra menor and wait for approval. Don’t touch the pavement without permission or you’ll be fined.
- Pay the tasa for processing through the municipal gateway (they’ll generate an autoliquidación). Keep the receipt.
- Inspection: Policía Local/technical services will come, measure and validate. If they see risks (corner, pedestrian crossing), they can reduce metres or deny the request.
- Resolución: if approved, they assign a número de vado and issue the tasa anual. Pay it on time.
- Placa and signposting: collect/buy the placa homologada and install it where required (height, visibility). If your municipio paints the line, they will manage it; otherwise don’t paint yourself without instructions.
Tricks that save you time
- Upload clear plans with measurements and photos from several angles. It reduces requests for more info.
- If you’re in a tricky spot (corners, stops), check the ordenanza before paying to avoid wasted fees.
- Ask the community administrator for the agreement certificate already written; without it, the file stalls.
- Use the same browser for the whole trámite and disable ad-blockers. Many sedes work better in Chrome/Edge.
- If you’re doing works, coordinate dates: licence first, then resolución of the vado, and finally the placa. That way you don’t get stuck halfway.
Common mistakes that can derail the process
- Painting or putting a plate without permission: fine and forced restoration. Also, the tow truck won’t consider your plate if it’s not official.
- Not paying the annual tasa: surcharges and baja of the vado. Then you’ll have to start over.
- Asking for more metres than needed: they’ll cut it down and you waste time. Match the real width of the access.
- Not including the community authorisation: the file is stopped for weeks.
- Thinking the vado is your parking spot: you can be fined for parking in front of your own vado.
- Missing the inspection: they postpone it and your trámite goes to limbo.
- 1.Go to the sede electrónica of your Ayuntamiento with Cl@ve or certificado digital and search for “Vado permanente”, “Paso de vehículos” or “Reserva de espacio”.
- 2.Fill in the vado permanente authorisation form and attach DNI, property title, access plan, photos and community authorisation if it applies.
- 3.If you need to lower the bordillo, apply for the licencia de obra menor in the same sede and attach the croquis/proyecto; don’t touch the pavement without permission.
- 4.Generate and pay the autoliquidación/tasa de tramitación in the municipal payment gateway; keep the receipt because they will ask for it.
- 5.Wait for the inspection by Policía Local/servicios técnicos (they may call you); they must verify width, visibility and that you don’t invade pedestrian crossings.
- 6.You receive the resolución with the vado number, pay the annual tasa and they tell you how to get the placa homologada (Ayuntamiento or authorised supplier).
- 7.Install the official placa on the façade at the required height and signpost according to the ordenanza; after that, if someone blocks you, call Policía Local with your vado number.
- DNI/NIE of the owner or representative (and CIF if it’s a company/community)
- Title deed or rental contract of the premises/garage (with referencia catastral)
- Scaled plan of the access (width of the opening and metres of curb to occupy); if there’s building work, signed by a técnico
- Authorisation from the comunidad de propietarios (acta or certificate of the agreement) if the façade is communal
- Licence or comunicación de obra menor for lowering the bordillo, if you need to modify the pavement
- Current photographs of the façade and the access from the street
- Proof of registration in IAE if it’s a business activity (workshop, warehouse, etc.)
- Proof of payment of the municipal tasa (autoliquidación) when the system generates it
Don’t paint or lower the bordillo without a licence
If you paint a yellow line or lower the bordillo without authorisation, you’ll be fined and forced to restore the pavement. Get the permiso de obra menor first.
Without the placa and number, the tow truck won’t act
The police only remove cars if the vado is authorised and signposted with the official placa and current number. A plate you bought yourself or a DIY one won’t do.
Annual tasa: if you don’t pay, they deactivate the vado
The vado is renewed and paid each year. If you miss the payment, expect surcharges and possible baja of the vado. Check the padrón de tasas of your Ayuntamiento.
Finicky browsers and municipal sedes
Many municipal sedes work better in Chrome/Edge than in Safari. If the registro won’t load, change browser before you lose your mind.
How much does a vado permanente cost?
It depends on your municipio: there’s usually a processing tasa, an annual tasa calculated by metres of façade and zone, and the cost of the placa. Check the ordenanzas fiscales of your Ayuntamiento for exact amounts.
Can I be fined for painting the yellow line without permission?
Yes. Painting or signposting without authorisation is punishable and they can force you to repaint and restore. Also, without resolución and official placa, the Policía won’t remove cars.
Does the vado let me park in front of my garage?
No. The vado is to ease entry and exit, not a private parking space on the street. Parking in front of your own vado can also get you fined.
What do I do if a car is blocking my vado?
Call Policía Local and give them your vado number. If it’s authorised and properly signposted, they can fine and remove the vehicle. Without an official placa or if the vado is expired, they normally won’t act.
Do I have to renew the vado every year?
Yes, it’s a periodic tasa. You’ll get the bill or it will appear in the municipal padrón. If you stop using the access, request baja so they stop charging you.
How many metres of vado will they approve?
Usually they approve the width of the access with a margin according to ordenanza and road safety. They won’t grant more than necessary and there are limits near pedestrian crossings, junctions or bus stops.
Can I change the vado holder (titular)?
Yes, but you must notify the Ayuntamiento and submit the new holder’s documentation. If you don’t, they will keep charging the tasa to the previous holder.
