Temporary deregistration (baja temporal) of your vehicle at the DGT
If you want to take your car or motorcycle out of circulation for a while (you don't use it, it's broken, you're storing it), you request a baja temporal from the DGT. It stops insurance/ITV obligations and forbids driving. It's not a definitiva baja.

- 1.Go to the DGT sede: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/bajas/baja-temporal/ and click “Tramitar online”.
- 2.If you need the fee, buy the Tasa DGT 4.1 here: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/tramites-y-multas/pago-de-tasas/compra-de-tasas/ (you'll get a tasa number after paying by card or direct debit).
- 3.Identify yourself with Cl@ve or certificado, fill in the vehicle and owner details, select “baja temporal” and attach the required documents (denuncia if it's theft).
- 4.Sign the application, validate the payment of Tasa 4.1 (if applicable) and download the baja temporal receipt with date and time.
- 5.If you prefer to do it in person, book a cita previa at Jefatura: https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/cita-previa-oficina/ and bring DNI, permiso, ficha ITV, tasa receipt and, if needed, the denuncia or authorisation.
- 6.Keep the vehicle on private property. Tell your insurer if you plan to suspend or adjust the policy. You may not leave the vehicle on public roads.
